Would you trust your mechanic to perform a heart operation? Professional intrusion

Would you commission your plumber to repair your car's engine? Does the baker cut your hair? Would you trust your mechanic to perform a heart operation?

Everyday professional intrusion is more common where unqualified employees (freelance or staff) make decisions for which they are not prepared within companies. Representing the image of a brand is a great responsibility.

Even if your products are wonderful, if your image is mediocre, you will not achieve the success you deserve. Starting a business is expensive, creating a brand requires a lot of investment.

And why is there professional intrusion?

This does not only happen in Taiwan, it's common throughout the world, marketing departments, communication departments, etc...

In some cases, the managers in charge do not have specific training to recognize the professional shortcomings of their employees, or they do not have time to supervise the work they do, so everything seems fine to them because they have their eyes closed.

In other cases, and adding to the first case, employees have jumped all the hurdles to reach positions for which they are not qualified, cheating on their resume and acting in such a way that they would be worthy of a golden statuette in Hollywood. Obviously, if your supervisor had the time, he could easily spot the deception, but these types of employees are usually quite good at the art of scamming.

In the third case, even knowingly, supervisors hire these types of employees or companies without sufficient qualification due to a budgetary issue. But what at first may seem cheaper, in the end, it is not profitable and is usually more expensive, it can end in disaster.

And is that today everyone knows everything, especially in times of pandemic where we all have a tendency to reinvent ourselves.

It is very common to see architects designing web pages, industrial designers designing logos, philologists in the marketing department, artists, creatives, internet gurus, etc ...

When you do not know a subject, it is easy to think that it is easy to do, especially when it is accessible to read the information on the internet. Although there are millions of people who study communication or graphic design for years, it seems like anyone could do this job. The same does not happen for example with medicine, architecture, or road engineering

So if there are people who study these careers for years, why might it seem like anyone can?

It is very common to confuse handling programs like Photoshop with being a designer, for example, or knowing how to use Microsoft Word with being a copywriter.

To design a logo, for example, it is not enough to know how to use a design tool such as Photoshop or Illustrator, it is also necessary to have other types of knowledge that are not limited to using a tool or acquired by reading 4 pages in Google searches. Being a designer is not knowing how to use Photoshop, being a designer is a profession that is learned after many years of study and experience in the sector.

Obviously, there are examples of brands that are currently multinationals, and that are the exception, but that over time has passed through the hands of professionals who have redesigned the logo giving it characteristics that have made it competitive.

We can see for example the evolution of Apple, where we can see the difference between its first logo designed by Ronald Wayne with the second that Steve Jobs commissioned from a professional designer named Rob Janoff.

Obviously, nowadays, knowing how to handle Photoshop is a basic requirement to work professionally, but there is much more behind it, knowledge of subjects such as the basic principles of design, colorimetry or color technique, diagramming, psychology, or printing, among many others.

In addition, it must be added that not only aptitude is enough, but not everyone has attitudes to design, wherein this professional artistic talent is of great importance and of course academic preparation in this matter.

If we add to this that a logo is not a simple drawing, but rather pursues certain strategic business objectives that require a deep knowledge of branding and marketing. Without this knowledge, it is difficult to create a professional logo that meets these requirements.

But from the ignorance, it might seem like something simple that everyone could do with the only requirement of knowing how to use Photoshop or any other graphic editing software.

Likewise, the same happens in branding and marketing. To carry out a marketing plan or carry out any strategy, many appear to pose as experts, but obviously, they are techniques that require a lot of knowledge that is not acquired until after academic study and practice.

But, if you wouldn't trust a dentist to perform a heart transplant, why would you trust an unqualified professional to develop your brand image?

Obviously, the first answer is about something as important as your health. In the second case, it is something that concerns your time and finally your money. You are going to make a large investment to create a company, or in some cases, you have already done it, but without thinking about it you are going to leave the image of your company in the hands of another person who is not really qualified for it.

The brand of our company represents us, as well as all branding. More and more, our website and our social networks are the faces of our company, it is the first thing our clients will see. The first thing we do to find out about a new company is to search their website to find out who they are and what they do.

If we leave our image in the hands of someone who is not an expert, we will be showing the world an image that will not always correspond to our objectives. A qualified professional will add value to your company.

Finally, and as I spoke in my article about the fantastic 7Ps, human resources are an important part of the company and are part of the marketing strategy, where we cannot neglect who will perform these important tasks.
